Director Arvind Caulagi bags the Best Emerging Indian Filmmaker nomination for ‘TAPS’ at Kashish Film Festival

The KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival is back with yet another great lineup of films. Being the only mainstream queer film festival in India, it holds great value for cinema lovers. This year, the prestigious festival will be held from June 7 to June 11 2023 at Liberty Cinema in Mumbai. One of the film’s that has been selected for a world premiere at Kashish Film Festival is Director Arvind Caulagi’s short film ‘TAPS’. Being credited for his great writing and directorial skills, the filmmaker has now bagged a special nomination at the upcoming film festival.

Arvind Caulagi has been nominated for Riyad Wadia Award for Best Emerging Indian Filmmaker for ‘TAPS’. Instituted in memory of late filmmaker Riyad Wadia, who made India’s first gay film ‘BOMgAY’, Riyad Wadia Award for Best Emerging Indian Filmmaker is an attempt by KASHISH to recognize and nurture emerging Indian voices.

Expressing his gratitude on receiving this nomination, Arvind Caulagi said, “I was just as happy to have the film play at the festival and boom the news of this nomination took me by surprise! I’ve always wanted to see some kind of positive representation of queer relationships in Indian cinema and that’s what I’ve tried to do with Taps. It is a very specific story but I hope that anyone and everyone, irrespective of what they identify as, finds it relatable.”

Surely a great news for the makers of the film, it can be said that ‘TAPS’ is here to win hearts with its powerful storyline and Arvind Caulagi’s great storytelling. Revolving around a gay relationship in Mumbai, film’s trailer is out and has received great response from both, the critics and the audience.

Meanwhile, ‘TAPS’ world premiere is scheduled to take place on June 8, 2023. TAPS is Co-Produced by Sudhanshu saria’s Four Line in partnership with Kashish Arts Foundation and Lotus Visual Productions.

Written and directed by Arvind Caulagi, ‘TAPS’ is a 15 minutes 25 seconds short film available in English and Hindi languages.
