On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, which is celebrated on September 5, spiritual healer Amiben Modi spoke about gurus and mentors and says, “A teacher or a guru is anyone who will correct you even at the risk of upsetting you. In my opinion, we choose our Gurus when we accept their knowledge.””It is anyone who doesn’t mince their words because they know that later in life, they will help you grow and evolve. Most importantly, they are the ones who help us understand our own conscience and realise the true purpose,” she adds.

She also spoke about the relationship between a guru and his student and feels its always two ways. She says, “It is very difficult to describe a relation between a guru and student. Everyone has their own bond and each bond is special. However, one thing common in every bond is that of reciprocation. Learning is always two ways. The gurus always learn from the students as much as the students learn with them.” She further asserted that she didn’t have one mentor and called her elder sister and her husband as one of them.

“You see so many people saying things and imparting their wisdom, but there are very few people we actually pay heed to. That is when we find our guru and mentors. I would consider myself lucky and fortunate as I had the luck of having many such people in my life who I could not help, but accept as my gurus. They always made sense to me, and I always accepted their wisdom. Be it my elder sister who taught me the value of relationships, my husband, who inspired me to be more compassionate and the people who instill immense faith in me, with whom I experienced the power of faith. There are many more things I have learned from many more mentors,” Amiben signs off.
